An anarchist soccer tournament? What’s that? And for that matter, why anarchist soccer?

Soccer is widely considered to be the most popular sport in the world, possibly because all you need are a few friends and a ball. This popularity makes soccer and gatherings around soccer a great way to network and socialize outside of our smaller circles. For the past three years, Austin Anarchist Soccer has sent teams to play in the Mondiali Antirazzisti (Anti-Racist World Cup) in Northern Italy and it has inspired us to create something similar on this side of the pond: a mixture of soccer, radical history, music, camping, film, socializing and education. And kid friendly!

Anarchists have been playing soccer ever since the game was invented--maybe it's something about the way play flows around the field, edge to edge, endline to endline. maybe it has something to do with the collectivist thinking where one great player is no match for a team that plays well together. or maybe there is just something about chasing that little round ball around a field or street or vacant lot that is just irresistible.

So, whether you are a seasoned player or a brand new convert, get a group of your friends together, pick a name and register a team at anarchistsoccer.org. It's going to be a lot of fun and hopefully the start of a new gulf coast tradition!

¿Por que un torneo de fútbol? ¿De hecho, por que el Fútbol Anarquista?

El fútbol es el deporte mas popular en el mundo, quizás porque no se necesita mas que un@s cuates y una pelota. Juntar gente para un encuentro del fútbol es una manera buenísima para facilitar las redes sociales mas allá que nuestros grupos mas pequeños. Por los últimos tres años, el grupo de Fútbol Anarquista de Austin ha mandado equipos a la Copa Mundial Antiracista que se lleva a cabo cada año en Italia con mas de 200 equipos de varias partes del mundo, incluso equipos de inmigrantes. Esta experiencia nos ha dado la idea de hacer algo semejante aquí en Tejas: Una mezcla de fútbol, historia y política radical, música, camping, películas, educación y diversión. Y por supuesto bienvenidos a l@s chamac@s son bienvenid@s.

L@s anarquistas han jugado fútbol desde su nacimiento: quizás tenga algo que ver con la moda en lo cual el juego fluye por todo el campo de gol a gol y de un línea de banda a otra—o puede ser por la manera de pensar como equipo porque el delantero mas hábil nunca puede ganar solo a un grupo de gente jugando bien como equipo—o tal vez es nada mas que la felicidad de estar corriendo por algún campo, calle o estacionamiento detrás de una pelota.

Ein Anarchistfußballturnier? Was ist denn das? Und warum überhaupt Anarchistfußball?

Fußball wird im algemein als der beliebste Sport in der Welt betrachtet, vielleicht weil man nichts mehr es zu spielen braucht als ein paar Freunde und einen Ball. Diese Popularität macht das Versammeln um Fußball zu spielen eine prima Weise zu vernetzen und außerhalb unserer kleineren Kreise zu sozialisieren. Seit drei Jahren hat Austin Anarchist Fußball Mannschaften nach nördlichem Italien geschickt, um im Mondiali Antirazzisti (Antirassistische Weltmeisterschaft) teilzunehmen. Diese Erfahrung hat uns angeregt, etwas Ähnliches auf dieser Seite vom Teich zu veranstalten. Wir haben vor, ein Gebräu von Fußball, radikaler Geschichte, Musik, Camping, Filme, Gesellschaft, und Ausbildung aufzubrühen. Kinder sind willkommen!

Seitdem das Spiel erfunden wurde, haben Anarchisten Fußball gespielt. Vielleicht hängt das von den fließenden Bewegungen der Mannschaften um das Sportfeld ab, indem sie sich von Rand zu Rand und von Torlinie zu Torlinie schieben. Vielleicht hat es etwas mit kollektivistischen Denken zu tun, indem ein spitzenmäßiger Spieler kein gutes Gegenstück ist für eine Mannschaft die gut zusammenspielt. Oder vielleicht ist es einfach unwiderstehlich einen kleinen runden Ball um einen Spielplatz, eine Straße, oder ein leeres Grundstück herum zu treiben und verfolgen.

Deshalb, ob Sie ein erfahrener Spieler oder ein funkelnagelneuer Bekehrter sind, sammeln Sie eine Gruppe von Bekannten zusammen, erwählen Sie einen Namen, und registrieren Sie Ihre Mannschaft am Homepage anarchistsoccer.org. Es wird bestimmt viel Spaß und hoffentlich auch der Anfang einer neuen Golfküstentradition sein!
